Legendary Celtics coach Auerbach dies - NBA - Yahoo! Sports: "Red Auerbach, the legendary coach of the Boston Celtics, has died in Washington at the age of 89, the National Basketball Association team said.
The Celtics, whose statement said Auerbach 'passed away suddenly,' have refrained in the past from giving details on his health out of respect for his family's privacy.

i hope...

Keeping the dream alive is all about hope for the next generation, and the generation after that - our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren.

I'd really like for them to know about hand-me-down clothes and home-made ice-cream and leftover meat-loaf. My grandsons, I hope you learn humility by being humiliated. I hope you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your own bed, to mow the lawns, wash the car. I hope nobody gives you a brand new motor car when your 17. I hope you have a job by then. It will be good at least one time if you see a baby lamb born or see your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something that you believe in. I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother - by the way it's alright to draw a line down the middle of the room. When he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him. I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and I hope you live in a town where you can do it safely.

I hope you learn to dig in dirt. I hope you learn to play marbles and read books and I hope when you learn those new-fangled computers you also learn to add up and subtract in your bright little mind. I hope your friends give you a hard time when you have your first girlfriend, and I hope when you talk back to your mother you'll learn the taste of soap. I hope you skin your knee climbing mountains and burn your hand on the iron. May you feel sorrow at a funeral and may you feel absolute happiness on your birthday.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a cricket ball through a neighbour's window and I hope she hugs and kisses you at Christmas time when you buy her a bottle of the worst perfume money can buy.

These things I wish for you, tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness.
She was perfect. He counted all her little fingers and toes just to make sure. It was his daughter. He would dedicate his every thought from that moment on to make sure that she had whatever her little heart desired. It was love at first sight for him. No other woman in his world would ever come close to the love he felt for her, or the disappointment he would come to experience. He wondered how he would ever be able to provide the kind of life he knew she deserved. He was a young attorney with a law practice and a mortgage to maintain. He wasn't making a lot of money and his young wife was the product of a wealthy life style. He was constantly reminded by his inlaws that he needed to give their daughter the kind of home she deserved. He tried his best. At 27 he had a lot of responsibility. He had dreamed of becoming a journalist but his parents wanted him to go to law school. They were very convincing and he finally gave in. Actually if he hadn't agreed to go the Law School he would have never met his wife. After becoming friends with her brother, they found themselves in love and planning a wedding after six months. Life was rushing past him almost too fast to keep up with. His days were consumed with working and in the beginning studying for the bar exam. Two years or so had flown by and today he was looking into the eyes of his angel. Could this be enough to put the happiness back in his world? His mother was so sick, his job was exhausting him, he was finding solice in a bottle not to mention the ability to escape all the problems he seemed to have. He wanted to make everyone happy, he always did. It was part of his problem, the more guilt he felt, the more he would seek oblivion in the bottom of a glass.

San Diego

Driving on Interstate 15 is impossible. The high level of congestion on this busy interstate is obscene. Although the congestion is unreasonable, it can be reduced. Making simple changes to the public transportation system is the solution. One simple change should be the addition of a trolley between Escondido and San Diego.

This small addition to our public transportation system could possibly reduce traffic by 10 percent and produce positive side effects. Generating renewable revenue for the city or transit system is one possible outcome. The reduction of harmful smog pollutants is another positive outcome. A reduction of alcohol-related DUIs is yet another positive outcome.

By providing a safe, inexpensive means of mass transit, the city of San Diego can potentially save millions in highway projects, highway maintenance, vehicle fatalities, insurance costs and health care. The potential money saved from these positive effects from a trolley addition is limitless. For this reason alone, adding a trolley between Escondido and San Diego is beyond reproach. Posted by Picasa

Latinos

You can see the real intentions of the Latinos. They say: We can do what we want, we can come to this country illegally, and in your face gringos, we are here, and we are going to change the words and sing our own version of your national anthem, in our own native tongue. We don't have to speak English or obey your stupid laws.

Reminds me of a line from an old movie: "Badges, badges? We don't need no stinking badges." Posted by Picasa

Palomar Community College in San Marco

Palomar Community College in San Marco I am a student at Palomar Community College in San Marcos and I drive from Escondido to San Marcos every day to go to class. I have to leave my house 40 minutes before my class starts at 8 a.m. in order to beat traffic on Highway 78, find parking and make it to class on time.

Even though I take various precautions to try and avoid sitting in traffic almost every day of my life, I have come to accept that I will sit in traffic almost every day of my life.

A trolley line to San Diego would benefit those who wish to go to the city and enjoy a baseball game, and maybe a drink or two, without having to worry about traffic or parking, or anything involved with driving. A trolley line to San Diego would also benefit students who attend, or aspire to attend, SDSU or UCSD and do not live in San Diego. I hope to attend UCSD, but constantly worry about the commute to San Diego, especially when gas prices are reaching record highs, not to mention the costs of having to constantly repair cars due to constant driving.

A trolley from Oceanside to Escondido is a fantastic idea, but extending it to San Diego would benefit the entire county of San Diego immensely. As a community we must be able to see the benefits that an extended trolley line would produce. Posted by Picasa

Iraq

Iraq
The difference: GWB invaded Iraq pre-eminently and under false pretenses; it was wrong. Israel left Lebanon; Israel left Gaza, both moves to foster peace. Hamas and Hezbollah entered Israel and killed and kidnapped Israelis in deliberate terrorist attacks. Middle Eastern Muslims, Arabs, Islamists either encourage, or at least, allow these terrorists to do what they do without reproach. Well, they went too far this time and Israel has had enough. Both Hamas and Hezbollah were told right in the beginning: Give us back our people, stop shooting rockets into our civilian population, or we are coming in, and we pissed. At any time, peace could have been had, but the Muslim, Arab, Islamist fundamentalists refuse to stop, so Israel is making a statement. It’s sad that civilians have been hurt or killed, (hell, we killed over 40,000 in Iraq), but the blame lies with H. and H. It is time for the Muslims to stop their fanatics, come out of the seventh century, and join the civilized world. Thank you for your comments Posted by Picasa

Mexican heritage

Taking shopping carts from supermarket parking lots is called theft. It seems as if most shopping carts are taken by shoppers of Mexican heritage. The reason the police turn a blind eye to this practice is because the cities they work for have instructed them not to enforce the law so as not to offend the Mexicans.

City administrators dread being accused of racial discrimination and the following megabuck lawsuits that will be brought by the greed of the vermin inaccurately named lawyers.

Is this the kind of judgment we need in Washington?

Talk about poor judgment. Brian Bilbray took money from Metabolife, now defunct maker of the banned substance ephedra. They were large contributors in his last two congressional campaigns of 1998 and 2000 and employed him as a lobbyist.

In 2000, after losing his seat in Congress, he chose to stay in the D.C. area and be a lobbyist. He has lived in Virginia for the past six years. During that time, he lobbied for Metabolife, whose owners were pleading guilty to a number of federal charges, including tax evasion, lying to federal drug regulators and weapons charges.

The FDA banned ephedra in 2004, due to the fact that this amphetaminelike substance causes increased blood pressure by constricting arteries, which led to many deaths from heart attacks, strokes and seizures. There were over 16,000 reports of harmful effects from it. Yet Brian Bilbray continues to defend his support of Metabolife and touts the benefits of ephedra, comparing it to aspirin (Union-Tribune article, May 2).

Cathie Ryan

Few performers straddle the worlds of “Irish traditional singer” and “singer-songwriter” as gracefully - or as successfully - as Irish-American singer Cathie Ryan.

As the Boston Globe recently wrote, "Cathie Ryan is a thrilling traditional vocalist, but her honey-pure soprano is equally at home on probing original ballads about a woman's place in the modern world."

Indeed, in the folk hive of Boston, Ryan has headlined Boston College's staunchly traditional Gaelic Roots Festival; but also the hip songwriter mecca Club Passim, where the legends of folk music all cut their teeth. In 2003 one of her songs was included in the famous Irish music collection, A Woman’s Heart – A Decade On placing her amongst Ireland’s finest female vocalists and songwriters. It was the first time Americans were featured in the series and she shared the honor with Allison Krauss, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. In recent years, her original songs have been recorded by such distinguished Irish vocalists as Frances Black and Mary Black among others. All of this inspired the LA Times to name her, “One of the leading voices in Celtic music.“

Bingo

Bingo is already well-established as a branch of the egaming industry, and there are several niche operators who are doing nicely out of the growing interest in the game online. But as one bingo operator admitted to me recently, it is never going to be the next poker. However, it does have some strong attractions, most notably its ability to target a completely new audience of lower- to middle-income women. While this may remain attractive to women-friendly casino firms, ultimately it may prove too much work for too little reward for sportsbook and poker operators. It is not an easy cross-sell and may remain a sector where the bingo-only firms rule the roost.
In summary, if you are interested in a new demographic and a steady revenue earner this is a good bet. There may also be some uplift from rival operators spending money on educating the market.
