Legendary Celtics coach Auerbach dies - NBA - Yahoo! Sports: "Red Auerbach, the legendary coach of the Boston Celtics, has died in Washington at the age of 89, the National Basketball Association team said.
The Celtics, whose statement said Auerbach 'passed away suddenly,' have refrained in the past from giving details on his health out of respect for his family's privacy.
Auerbach joined the Celtics in 1950 as the club's third coach and also served as general manager, president and vice chairman of the board."
